Mascioni crosses the ocean
It is said that the best things come to those who wait.
With that in our minds, we’re proud to announce Mascioni’s first ever foray into the USA: a three-manual, 45-stop organ for St Joseph Church, Columbia, South Carolina.
St Joseph's Church is a true cultural centre. With an enthusiastic team, instrumental groups and several choirs, it already boasts an enviable musical activity: a project that the musical director Worth Lewallen and the organist Patrick Hawkins want to further enhance it.
Our new instrument will be key to that. It’s classically Italian, lightly blown and gentlemanly, but with bold choruses rich with reeds and mixtures. Alongside sit characterful solo stops, piquant mutations and even a ripieno-style Positive based on a modest 8’ Principal like many here in Italy.
That way, the St. Joseph team will have a wide palette of timbres to combine, experiment with, explore repertoires and lead choirs. And we will have the chance to bring to Columbia something of ourselves and our country’s tonal traditions.
The organ will be placed on the west gallery, in two symmetrical cases either side of the choir space in C and C# sides. To aid singing further, the Swell organ has a double swell front facing both across the gallery and down the nave. Traditional slider soundboards with direct electric action will be used, linked to a mobile draw-knob console in the choir space.
Construction will begin in late 2028 and we will be in Columbia by mid-2030.
