THE NEW ORGAN
Work is underway on the construction of the new organ for the Cathedral of Alba.
It will be one of the largest instruments in Italy, featuring four organ divisions (three in the choir loft and one on the church floor).
There will be two 4-manual consoles, one in the base of the main organ in the choir loft and one, mobile, on the church floor.
In the choir loft, inside the old case from 1876, will be placed the first three manuals: G.ORGANO in the centre behind the prospect, the POSITIVO at the sides of the G.ORGANO divided into C and C#, the RECITATIVO enclosed, behind the G.ORGANO. The minor pipes of the PEDALE will also find their place here.
The two new organ cases, at either end of the chancel, will contain the PEDALE major pipes on the one hand, and the SOLO organ, playable from the 4th manua, on the other.
There will be a mobile church-floor console, with draw-knob control for the stops, beside a CHORAL organ playable on the I keyboard.
The disposition was prepared by Maestro Stefano Marino.
Installation is scheduled for 2027, updates will be published as the project progresses.
