LEGNANO (MI) - Basilica S.Magno
The organ finally returns to play inside the wonderful Basilica of Legnano.
The pipes of the instrument, restored and integrated in our workshop, incorporates three historical stratifications: Gian Giacomo Antegnati 1542, Giovanni and Girolamo Carrera 1814, Giorgio Maroni 1920.
The space in the case, designed in the early 20th century by architect Luigi Perrone, has been rationalised by making technical-artistic choices useful for obtaining a complete instrument that enhances the oldest phonic part and at the same time is functional and accessible for regular maintenance.
The organ currently has two “twin” consoles, one in the chancel and one mobile in the nave. They were specially designed to aesthetically integrate with the historical case and to dialogue with the Basilica's splendid Bramante architecture.
The rich facade of the neoclassical case consists of 83 sounding pipes divided into 7 bays.
The organ consists of 30 sounding stops on two 58 note keyboards and a 30 note pedalboard with the Recit located in the centre, under the large rose window, while the Great Organ and the Pedal are symmetrically divided by semitones in the two side towers.
From 15 November 2025 to 6 January 2026 in the Hall of Coats of Arms in Palazzo Malinverni it will be possible to visit an exhibition that tells the story of the rebirth and restoration of this instrument, the choir loft and the wooden case.
The official opening will take place on 27 November and other musical events will follow to celebrate the new voice of this organ after its long silence.
