Mascioni Crosses the Ocean
With that in our minds, we’re proud to announce Mascioni’s first ever foray into the USA: a three-manual, 45-stop organ for St Joseph Church, Columbia, South Carolina.
St. Joseph Church is a hive of musical activity. With an enthusiastic team, instrumental groups and several choirs it already has an enviable repertoire to its credit: something that Musical Director Worth Lewallen and Organist Patrick Hawkins want to take much further.
The organ will be placed on the west gallery, in two symmetrical cases on either side of the choir space on sides C and C#. To further facilitate singing, the expressive organ will have a double opening facing both the gallery and the nave. Traditional electrically-actuated pull-action mummers will be used, connected to a console with pull-action knobs located in the choir space.
Construction will begin in late 2028 and we will be in Columbia by mid-2030. It seems like a long wait. But there again, America has been waiting for two centuries.
