COMISO (RG)

BASILICA

A new important conservative restoration work in Sicily: we begin the restoration of the organ built by organ builders 'F.lli Michele and Agostino Polizzi', starting in 1918 and inaugurated in 1923, for the beautiful Basilica of Maria Santissima Annunziata in Comiso (RG).
The 'F.lli Polizzi' organ is equipped with two keyboards with 61 keys (C1-Do6) and a straight pedalboard with 27 keys (C1-Re3).
The instrument consists of 26 stops pneumatically operated by plates with ceramic discs placed horizontally above the keyboards. The transmission is mechanical for the two manuals, which consist of two large windchests made according to the Serassi construction tradition from which Michele Polizzi had the opportunity to learn during his military service in Bergamo.
It is also worth mentioning that in 1885 the organ builder Casimiro Allieri, head of the Serassi factory, travelled to Sicily to build the great organ in the Cathedral of San Giorgio in Modica and wanted Michele Polizzi with him as a collaborator; their contacts grew and Michele decided to move to Modica for good in 1888. At the beginning of the 20th century, Agostino also moved to Modica to work with his brother, and so the Michele and Agostino Polizzi Company of Modica Alta was born.
The Comiso organ will be fully restored in every structural, transmission and phonic part at our workshop in Azzio.
