Azzio

WHERE EVERYTHING WAS BORN

The church of the Convent of Azzio (Varese) is a seventeenth-century monument of great historical interest for the Valcuvia. For some years now, a committee has been promoting its restoration, in order to enhance the building's artistic peculiarities alongside liturgical activities.
The history of the Convent is intertwined with that of the Mascioni organ company, which was born in this very church. During the period of Napoleonic suppressions, two conventual friars, Father Antonio and Father Pasquale Mascioni, who had taken refuge in Azzio, initiated their very young nephew Giacomo into the art of organ-making.

THE ORGAN
The new instrument is mechanically driven and consists of two manuals, pedal board.

In particular, the instrument, set in 17th-century architecture, has the aesthetics of 17th-century instruments as its sound model.

The phonic arrangement was designed by Maestro Lorenzo Ghielmi with a special focus on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, the most profound and spiritual composer of organ music. In this way, this organ will become a reference instrument for the entire province of Varese: in this area, in fact, many precious 19th century Italian instruments are preserved, but it is rarely possible to hear Bach's great organ repertoire.
