THE TOKYO CATHEDRAL

The present church, completed in 1964, was designed by Kenzo Tange, a Japanese architect and urban planner, considered one of the leading figures in 20th century architecture.
The Tokyo Cathedral is considered one of Tange's most important works, and one of the most interesting architectures in Tokyo. The building brings together a Western subject and Eastern culture with their own sensibility: it resolves the complexity of the design into brilliant architecture.

THE ORGAN

The organ is located in the choir loft above the main entrance. The sounds are clear and transparent, designed to resonate in the reverberant acoustics of the church.
The instrument presents itself as a work built in respect of the ancient organ-making tradition but with the desire to be a modern and versatile organ, at the service of liturgy and music. Particular care was taken in the intonation of some typical Italian registers, designed according to Antegnati's measurements and placed in the Positivo tergale.
The particularly light mechanism, despite the size of the instrument, allows the organist perfect control of touch.
The slightly unequivocal temperament (5 pure fifths, 5 narrow fifths of 1/6th of a comma, 2 narrow fifths of 1/12th of a comma) lends timbral beauty to the overall sonority, while allowing the use of all tonalities.

Dear Mr.Mascioni , my brother Ernst-Erich Stender is very enthusiastic about the wonderful Mascioni organ Opus 1165. The Pipeorgan is magnificent! The sounds are transparent and clear - perfect for the large acoustic of the Cathedral! Wonderful is the intonation of typical Italian stops (Positiv). What a lightness of the action and a perfekt control of the touch .It was a real pleasure to play in St. Mary`s Cathedral my brother said. Prof. Stender was appointed to the position of organist at the St. Mary`s Church in Lübeck in 1973. Hans - Dietrich Stender Concerts Manager Täby ( Stockholm ) Sweden E-mail : hans.stender @telia.com
