Vila Real

THE CATHEDRAL

The Cathedral, which now serves as the seat of the diocese of Vila Real, is situated centrally in the city, within the gardens of the Carvalho Araujo boulevard and adjacent to the Conservatory of Music. Historically, it was the church of a 15th-century Dominican convent, established by monks from Guimarães. The cathedral showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles and was recognized as a national monument in 1926.

THE ORGAN

The new organ for St. Dominic's Cathedral is a newly conceived four-manual symphonic instrument with electric action. It is positioned in the counter façade, above the main entrance. The visual design of the organ features 16′ and 8′ principal pipes, along with 8′ 'Trompete em Batalha' horizontal trumpets. The console for the organ is located on the main floor of the church, near the altar.
The instrument, which is electrically driven, is located in the counter façade above the entrance portal.
The prospectus is composed of 16′ and 8′ labial pipes and chamade trumpets belonging to the 8′ 'Trompete em Batalha' register. The console is located on the church floor near the altar.
